On July 20, 2015, Houston had the privilege of having IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer Dr. Kalyan Sen to give a presentation on Recent Developments in Electric Power Transmission Technology at the Prairie View A&M University (Northwest Houston Center). Dr. S. T. Koay, Prof. of ECE at Prairie View A&M University, hosted the meeting. There was plenty of opportunity for questions and answers.

The purpose of this presentation was to give an overview of the electric power transmission technology and its future trends. Dr. Sen started his career at Prairie View A&M University in 1987. After 3 years, he joined Westinghouse in Pittsburgh where the Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) products were developed in the 1990s. The subject matter is well described in his book, titled “Introduction to FACTS Controllers: Theory, Modeling, and Applications,” IEEE Press and John Wiley & Sons, 2009, which has been translated in Chinese.
